My year abroad in Japan, made possible by the Canon Foundation, allowed me to fully immerse myself in research and move forward. There was never a dull moment during my year. From earthquakes and typhoons, to the quiet and marvel of libraries and collection rooms, there was always something around the corner. Surrounded by the plants I studied the paintings of, I was able to reach my final stages of my research as the seasons discretely passed by. It goes without saying that I met many people who helped and contributed to my research progress. Having braved the natural and man-made disasters, I was finally able to make progress with my research and meet scholars and specialists in my field of study.
